I don’t use the word Mentor very often

Then again, I could be wrong.

I got my official start in the publication field back in 1990. A younger man then, I was working at a Dunkin’ Donuts (hold the jokes, please) overnight making donuts with Jim Serpiello.

Jim learned that I could use a computer and talked me into helping him with his monthly publication, Sour Grapes Magazette, that was printed and distributed in Austin, Texas monthly.

I never got paid, and just considered it an internship. I was hooked from the start. The job as a graphic designer for a magazine, instant gratification when the new issue came rolling off the press. I simply fell in love with the job.
