If We Can Stay Healthy
This time of the year, as teams across the State head back to fall football practice, the one thing on the mind of all coaches is maintaining the health of their student athletes. With the excessively scorching temperatures that have set in this week it is imperative that we keep that one thought fresh in our minds. Dehydration, heat stroke, and muscle fatigue can lead to a number of more serious problems for our youth. It is especially hard on those young men and women that may have some previous health issue going into the start of the season, such as asthma or heart problems. Coaches will look to monitor those closely as practices begin.
At this point in the season, every team is undefeated and tied for first place in their respective district and all have aspirations this year of winning a State Championship. To do so will take a strong core of talent that will provide the team with depth at each position. It doesn’t matter the sport, be it football or volleyball, the same holds true. It’s a long season and the more talent and/or players that you have available will be a determining factor in how the season turns out. The answer you hear most frequently from coaches when asked how they believe the team will be in the upcoming season always begins with “if we can stay healthy.”
