Report the news, don’t be the news
It was sound advice some 20+ years ago and it should still apply today. Report the news, don’t be the news is a phrase that was told to me when I first began to write for a community newspaper.
It is a simple philosophy that seems to have been lost on many reporters and media outlets. To day, when we switch on the news at night we are inundated with opinions, both from the anchor desk and from the many “experts” that appear nightly.
It has never been more important for our free democratic society to have fair and unbiased reporting than in today’s world, but more and more I see the ill effects of this “new brand” of journalism that bombards the American people minute by minute.
