Holy bats “Batman”
Janet Hurley did an interesting presentation on bats at the Carnegie Library on Wednesday. She definitely proved to the audience of children and adults that there is more to bats then Batman.
She explained the different species of bats around the United States. There are thirty-two species of bats in Texas with the Mexican free tail being the most prominent in our area.
She also explained that 20 percent of all mammals are bats.
There are many myths concerning bats, such as they are not blind. Bats biologically control insects. A hundred million bats can eat ten tons of insects nightly. They are very important to the agricultural community. There are even some farmers that only use bats to control the insects and no chemicals, which is much better for the environment. The law also protects bats.
