Area volunteer fire departments control fire

Jean Brackendorff sent: On August 13, 2020, a pasture fire broke out in the afternoon on CR325 between Franklin and Wheelock burning approximately 65 acres of pasture, trees, and dozens of hay bales. The Franklin Volunteer Fire Department led the 5-hour heroic efforts being one of seven local volunteer fire departments including Franklin Volunteer Fire Department, Blackjack Volunteer Fire Department , Hearne Volunteer Fire Department , Bremond Volunteer Fire Department, Calvert Volunteer Fire Department, Seale Round Prairie Volunteer Fire Department , and Wheelock Volunteer Fire Department. Nineteen volunteer firefighters with thirteen fire trucks fought the raging fire. High grass, changing winds and the drought conditions contributed to the difficulty in fighting this fire. The cause of the fire is unknown but believed to have started from the road. The property owners and neighbors are extremely grateful to the fire departments and firefighters for their service. County Precinct 3 provided a Road Maintainer to create a road boundary outside the 65 acres and there were no structures damaged.
