American Legion retires worn flags
American Legion Post #266 retired several worn flags in a special ceremony for Flag Day. The official flag disposal ceremony was held at the group’s headquarters in the Franklin City Park Saturday.
The group collects the old flags throughout the year and disposes of them in June.
“We collect them and make sure that they’re properly retired with a funeral pyre,” Commander Skip Jones said.
The flags were inspected and found to be worn, torn, faded, and generally unusable to represent service to the United States, Jones said.
