Bobby “Joe” Dees
Bobby “Joe” Dees, 83, of Franklin, Texas, passed away on June 23, 2017, in Tyler, Texas. He was a loving father and grandfather to his four children, eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Joe was born on March 27, 1934, in Fort Stockton, Texas, to Marvin Dees and Bernice Bailey Dees. As a young teenager, he began working as a ranch hand for the Bar-S Ranch in Barnhart, Texas, while simultaneously driving the local school bus. Still working at the ranch, Joe graduated Salutatorian of the 1952 Barnhart High School senior class. He was awarded a basketball scholarship to Sul-Ross University in Alpine, Texas. He left college to pursue his passion, the sport of rodeo. A few years and a lot of broken bones later, Joe was drafted into the Army where he served in Korea as a tank commander. Sergeant Dees was discharged from the Army in Fort Hood, Texas, but before leaving, he met the love of his life, Nadene Sanders, at a drive-in hamburger stand. They were married in Lovington, New Mexico, on December 8, 1958. Joe spent the rest of his life doing what he did best - providing for his family. They lived in various places throughout the years before finally settling in Franklin 27 years ago. In January 2016, at the age of 82, Joe finally passed along his and Nadene’s business, Dees Pumping Service, to his youngest son. Although officially retired, Joe refused to stop working and continued to raise his beloved cows and grow his garden until his passing. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Marvin Dees and Bernice Bailey Dees; his wife, Vivian Nadene Sanders Dees; and his sister-in-law, Helen Dees. He is survived by his children, son, Wade Dees of Somerville, Texas, son Jim and wife, Tammy Dees of Overton, Texas, daughter, Karen and husband, Steven Bolech of Channelview, Texas, and son Scott and wife Sheila, of Franklin, Texas. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kathryn Dees, Frances Dees, Chris and wife, Natasha Dees, Justin and wife, Sara Dees, Jeff Dees, Joe and wife, Sarah Dees, Craig Yates, Matthew Yates; and great grandchildren, Aaron Dees, Mikayla Dees, Devon Dees, Jaela Jones, Andrew Dees, Jaleesa Jones, Joshua Jones Jr., Paislee Dees, and Parker Dees. His surviving siblings are, Frank Dees of Onalaska, Texas, Sue and husband, Gerald Watkins of Republic, Missouri, and Nell and husband Richard Freeman of Mustang, Oklahoma. Although he will be missed by all, we take comfort in knowing that he has been reunited with his beautiful bride of 57 years, Nadene, and they are rejoicing together in Heaven. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Overton Missionary Baptist Church in Overton, Texas.
