Lady Lions are staying the course

Franklin Lady Lions vs. Little River Academy Lady Bumblebees in Franklin on Friday, September 15 at 4:00 p.m.

The Franklin Lady Lions are making certain that they keep their eyes on the big picture as they begin to wade into the district race. The Lady Lions know there are going to be some tough nights because they play in one of the most competitive volleyball districts in the State.

There will also be those moments that will see them perform at that championship level but it’s going to take time. With their athletic ability, once the overall team concepts and skills kick in, this is going to be a very good Franklin volleyball team.

Coach Crabtree has her work cut out for her this season and the bumps and bruises may not be easy but it’s what lies ahead for the team that brings a smile to her face.

She knows that Abigail Zeig, Grace Callen, Larissa Mendoza, Tiana Wade, Abby Schlieker, Karly Leamon, Makenzie Tomascik, Ciara Wade, Holland Helton, and company are a great team in the making. If they are willing to put in the work it takes they can become a championship level volleyball team, of that she is certain.

Friday they had a tough four set defeat at the hands of the Lexington Lady Eagles. The Lady Lions played well early in the match, winning game one 26-24, as they outlasted the Lady Eagles in a marathon match.

However the energy they spent taking game one cost them in the end as they dropped the final three sets on the match 25-15, 25-11, and 25-19. There were opportunities for Franklin to take advantage of but they just could not find enough consistency to overcome the Lady Eagles.

Larissa Mendoza and Grace Callen led the team in digs with 4 each. Callen had an all around great match with 6 kills, 3 aces, and 7 assist, to go with those 4 digs. Tiana Wade had 3 kills, 8 digs, and 1 ace, while sister Ciara Wade had 6 digs.

Abigail Zeig led the team in digs with 10 and Makenzie Tomascik had 8. Holland Helton and Karly Leamon chipped in 2 big kills each for the team and Abby Schlieker added 2 service aces and 6 assists to the Lady Lion’s cause.
