JOE KENNETH WITHERS
Joe Kenneth Withers, age 74, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, December 14, 2020 in Stockdale, TX. Joe was born to Joe D and Alma (Ansley) Withers in Teague, TX on September 18, 1946.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Jim and Bob Currie, grandparents, Albert and Ethelena Ansley, George W. and Willie Withers, In-laws, Fred and Marie Gonzales, brothers-in-law, Freddie R. Gonzales, Bobby J. Gonzales, Tommy F. Gonzales, Carl Douthey, Norman Murff, and Juan R. Soto, grandson, Johnathan Michael Withers and great-grandchildren, Levi and McKenzie Withers.
Joe is survived by his wife, Betty Withers; daughter, Monica Herrera and husband Domingo; son, Jeffrey Withers and wife Christine; grandchildren, Julie, Kourtney, Brittany, Gerald, Tyler, Ashley, Amber, Jacob and Shelby; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Benjamin, Tabitha, Hunter, Madalynn, Brandon, Bradley and Julianna; sisters, Lynda Douthey, Sylvia Murff, Mary Franklin and husband Ronnie, and Patricia Clark and husband Frank; sister-in-law, Virginia Soto; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving family members and many friends.
Joe attended Franklin ISD in Franklin, TX. He worked on many farms and ranches in Robertson County, and at Houston Natural Gas before joining the United States Army in 1966. Joe was a paratrooper for the 101st Airborne Division in the Vietnam War. Joe was awarded the Purple Heart, Silver Star and Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam. Joe retired from the United States Army in 1968.
Joe married Betty on December 7, 1968 in Houston, TX. Joe and Betty moved to Kirby, TX where Joe attended Small Engine Repair School. In 1976, they moved to Stockdale, TX with their children.
Joe was active at St. Maryâ€™s Catholic Church in Stockdale, TX. He assisted with Boy Scouts, Little League Baseball, FFA and all other extracurricular activates for his children and grandchildren. Joe enjoyed fishing, hunting and going to the coffee shop to visit with his friends. Joe never met a stranger and would help anyone he could. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Visitation will begin on Friday, December 18, 2020 at 11 a.m. followed by funeral services on at 1 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary in Seguin, TX with Pastor Danny Gonzales officiating. Interment will follow at St. Maryâ€™s Catholic Church Cemetery in Stockdale, TX. All CDC protocols must be followed including social distancing, limited seating and face coverings worn at all locations.
Serving as pallbearers will be, Domingo Herrera, John Soto, Mark Soto, Gerald Burns, Jacob McGee and Douglas Gonzales. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be, Tyler Withers, Hunter Withers, Nathan Burns, Benjamin Burns, Brandon McGee, Bradley McGee, Julie Withers, Kourtney Withers, Tabitha Cochran, Madalynn Withers, Julianna Withers, Shelby Withers, Brittany Withers-Burns and Amber McGee.
