PENNY VANIECE SOWELL
Penny Vaniece Sowell, 60, passed away at CHI St. Joseph Hospital on August 22, 2017.
Penny was born July 2, 1957 in Port Arthur, Texas.
She graduated from Rice Consolidated High School in Eagle Lake, Texas.
Penny was an Administrative Associate on the staff of Texas A&M Forest Service for the Western Gulf Coast Tree Improvement Program.
Penny was an advocate for all animals and provided a home for those she rescued. Her caring nature and laughter overflowed into the lives of everyone she met. Anyone in need could depend on Penny.
Preceding her in death was her father, O.D. Sowell.
Penny is survived by her mother, Loreta Sowell of Calvert; she leaves behind her “furry” animals and friend, Steve Davenport also of Calvert.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Penny Sowell to H.O.P.E. Animal Shelter, 1309 S. Market Street, Hearne, Texas, 77859 or Sneed Memorial United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 523, Calvert, Texas, 77837.
Honorary pallbearers were her cousins including: Terry Walker, Darrell Walker, Duane Walker, Chris Walker, Gary Don Walker, and Laurie Walker Hensel. Services were held at Memorial Funeral Home in Hearne on August 26, 2017 with Pastor Ben Tibbs of Sneed Memorial United Methodist Church officiating.
Tom Byram and Fred Raley, Supervisors of Texas A&M Forest Service, spoke about their fond memories of Penny at work. Penny will definitely be missed by the entire department of the Texas A&M Forest Service.
