Clash of Titans
Bremond Tigers vs. Crawford Pirates on Friday, August 25 at 7:00 p.m. in Crawford.
Fans this week will get a glimpse of two of the state’ stop ranked Class 2A football teams when the #2 ranked Bremond Tigers of Division II travel to take on the #3 ranked Crawford Pirates of Division I on Friday night.
Everyone knows about the Tigers and their 47 game winning streak but the Pirates have also been a playoff team. They went 14-2 last season, losing out in the State Finals .
They return 9 starters and 16 lettermen including their entire backfield of QB Gage Pearson and RB Garrett Dutshmann. Between them they scored 47 touchdowns and accounted for over 3500 yards.
Big Red defense will have its hands full trying to contain the pair. The Pirates also return a strong contingent on defense that will test the Bremond rebuilt offense.
Bremond looked very impressive in their first scrimmage of the new season against the Moody Bearcats. Behind the steady play and strong running of halfback Kaidyn Perales and Kiki Paul, and the receiving of Jared Stellbauer, the Tigers rebuilt offense looked smooth at times and proved efficient against the Bearcats.
Perales was especially impressive operating from both halfback and quarterback. He demonstrated why he gained more than 1200 yards and scored 20+ touchdowns this past season. He scored twice on scintillating and threw a touchdown to Stellbauer as the Tigers offense moved up and down the field.
Only their mistakes slowed them and those are things Coach Kasowski and the staff will work on in the coming week of practice.
The defense was solid shutting out the bearcats and limiting them to only a couple of big plays. It was a good opening performance for the Big Red defense led by Kellen Stuard, Gerado Ponce, Eric Wilganowski, Perales, Paul, Tre Hall, Kellen Stuard, and Cayl Wagner.
Although they would miss a few plays, it is their play that provides the fuel that fires the team and make fans believe that the win streak will continue for awhile. Bremond again looks to be potent and could get even better with the return of Michael Pruitt from injury. Look for The Tigers to be ready to go for win number 48 in two weeks.
