Lions charge the Tigers

It’s no secret who the best basketball team in the area is and if you’ve not seen them play you are in for quite a treat. They are scrappy, they hustle, go all out all the time, play with energy, are fast paced, shoot three point shots, play full court defense, use multiple players, and most important, they WIN. The Franklin Lady Lions are that team.

They are 24-1 on the season and State ranked in the top five. In many games they have been unchallenged as their relentless style of play just wears teams down and forced numerous errors that provided ample scoring chances. Coach Gary Watkins has used the mixture of veterans and newcomers to play multiple lineups and keep the pressure on opponents. Defensively they average double figures in steals per game and on offense they share the ball averaging better than 15 assists per outing. With the Lady Lions it is truly a team effort that gets it done.

Tuesday the Lady Lions hosted the 4A Giddings Lady Buffaloes in a non district contest on New Years Day. Like many of their games this season, this one became a no doubter early as Franklin built a quick early lead and never looked back, coasting to an easy 70-29 victory.
