Looking For Forty-Eight
Bremond vs. Whitewright on Thursday, August 31 at 7:30 p.m. in Ferris
Everyone knows what is on the mind of the Bremond Tigers as they begin the 2017 football season. They are fresh off that completing their 47 game winning streak and three straight State Championships, so not only is another title on their mind but the continuation of the winning streak. That means they are looking for number 48.
The opponent for the clash will be the Whitewright Tigers of Class 3A. Bremond thumped the Tigers last season in the opener and it’s certain they still remember that whipping.
The Tigers went 8-5 last season and reached the Region Semifinals last season before losing out. However, they were devastated more than Bremond by graduation losing 9 starters on offense and 10 on defense.
This will be a rebuilding season for these Tigers and it not a good time to catch a team on a mission like Bremond. They return talented running back Neal Taylor and promising back up Dylan Cordell. They will be asked to carry the load for a team that must replace so many key starters including the entire offensive line. Youngsters like WR Dylan Pitt, QB Seth Jackson, and L Radley Hamm will be counted on heavily in the upcoming year.
Bremond is also adjusting its lineup after graduation so the Tigers will be interested in finding out how well the new pieces fit in.
QB Michael Pruitt gets his first start at the helm of the Tiger offense.
He is talented, quick, and agile, just small in statue. Versatile halfback Kaidyn Peralez will key the offense behind a veteran offensive line led by Cayl Wagner and Kellan Stuard.
The new Tiger receiving corps of Jared Stellbauer and Kiki Paul have talent if Pruitt is able to get them the ball. The Big Red defense led by All State LB Eric Wiganowski, T Trey Hall, Peralez, Pruitt, and Wagner, will get it’s first real test of the season after playing well in both scrimmages this preseason.
Tiger fans are anxious to see the 2017 version after being spoiled by the group of Tigers that graduated the past three seasons.
Number 48 is on the plate so let’s take it.
